“So, why do you do what you do?”
Honestly, I thought I wanted to be a historian at first. I wanted musty armchairs, leather bound books, and first-hand source analysis. I gobbled up books about the voting rights activists of the Mississippi Summer Project and even as far back as Queen Elizabeth I. And then I found out that the historians of my imagination aren’t really a thing and getting on a tenure tract was pretty tough.
So, instead of reading about history-making organizers, activists and leaders — why don’t I make it happen right now? I could participate in making history rather than just waiting to read about it. As a Third Culture Kid, I was raised in Indonesia, graduated high school in China and gained my first professional experiences in Russia and Jordan. So, upon this political awakening and future-defining realization, I came home to American shores so I could change the world.
Now, I’m a digital storyteller that sculpts the voices and online advocacy efforts by our generation’s progressive causes, organizations, and movements. I believe the revolution should be joyful and should be optimized for mobile, preferably with a few cut downs for social.
I prioritize working on progressive campaigns and initiatives that envision a more equitable world and center the voices of marginalized communities. I understand the importance of and strategy behind creating cultural changes and am well equipped to organize cultural creatives, activists, and movement leaders. I believe we hold it in our collective self-interest to dismantle structural oppression and know that it begins by holding those in power into account, facilitating community dialogue, and grounding the everyday work in human dignity and humanity towards others.
When I’m not rabble rousing, you can find me contemplating my next tattoo, watching trash TV, and hanging out with my dog Toby and partner Jake in Portland, Oregon.
